What is a network?

Simply, a network is a collection of computers, printers, and other electronic devices, all linked either by a wireless router or by network cables so that they can communicate with one another and work together. A network allows individuals to share and exchange information and hardware (printers, servers, scanners etc.) and, more importantly, a single Internet connection. It also facilitates central backing up of all your valuable data and programs into one place for disaster recovery.

Why do I need a network?

Increased employee productivity:: When your office or home is fully connected your people are too, so everyone has quicker, more convenient access to the resources they need. Being connected saves you time. No longer will you have to run around trading flash drives, waiting to print at a designated printer, or use someone else's computer to access a database.
Reduced communication costs:: Exchanging information electronically (across a network), broadband connection sharing.
Reduced office equipment costs:: Networking saves you money by letting you defer expensive equipment purchases. You won't have to buy an extra printer or fax machine when it's so easy to share what you already have.

Once you get used to the benefits of a network, you'll wonder how you ever managed without it!

Computer running badly?

This can be caused by many factors. A computer service can help but you often find this is a false economy. For a more long lasting and robust solution a format and re-install of Windows sotware is better and cheaper option. This takes between 2 & 3 hours and will have your PC running like new!

Virus or Trojan?

A virus or Trojan can do much damage to your PC or network and even report passwords and account details to servers on the Internet. A classic sign of a virus is when your PC runs slowly on the Internet and takes while to turn the pages you are trying to view whilst working normally when not connected. This can be especially dangerous for a network as a virus can infiltrate every connected PC and even the server causing PC downtime and lost productivity.
